WSSL_03

Cross-country skiing looks easy, which often tempts beginners to do their own thing. However, as with any other sport, those about to try cross-country skiing for the first time should be aware of the importance of learning the correct technique, right from the beginning. Good technique will not only allow you to glide effortlessly along the trails, it will also ensure you conserve energy. Our cross-country instructors will show you the basic techniques required for the sport, so that you will be able to share the joy of this art of skiing, in no time.

Cross-country skiing through the Pinzgau district
Nordic sport fans visiting the Pinzgau district are in for a special treat. The immaculately prepared Pinzga loop is 130 km long and stretches from Krimml, through the Salzach Valley, to Zell am See. This trail is groomed both for classic cross-country skiers, as well as skaters. Cruise along the tracks through a magnificent landscape and explore the romantic alpine villages along the trail.

Hochmoor Loop

The aptly named “Hochmoor” or high moor loop lies in the alpine moorland region of Wasenmoos. The trail begins at the midway station of the Kitzbüheler Alpen car cable line and brings you into a world of serene alpine beauty. Follow the tracks as they disappear into the snow-covered forest, where you can enjoy truly idyllic scenery. On emerging, you will be greeted by spectacular view after spectacular view of the majestic Hohe Tauern mountain range. The altitude of the trail (1,250m) means you never have to worry about snow, and with the floodlights switched on until 9:00 pm, you can cross-country ski every day until your heart’s content. There is also an “Aussichtspavillon” or viewing platform along the trail, which in addition to providing a magnificent prospect of the white moorlands, is also equipped with a changing room and WC. The Hochmoor loop offers adventures for all levels of ability.

Right outside your front door
Cross country skiing enthusiasts looking to do a few quick rounds can try the Blizzard Loop in Mittersill, not far from the renowned firm Blizzard. The loop stretches 3 km and is floodlit at night. Blizzard Loop offers a dual track for classic cross-country skiing and skating.
